How to Curse

A comprehensive guide on curse-work in magick, the fundamentals I work with, and why I choose to work with Love and Elevation in the process of Cursing someone and their world.

Let’s talk about curses. Recently, Spirit has put me in some dangerous (ish, no physical harm came to me, but I was being reminded of vulnerability and awareness)- Spirit has placed me in some dangerous situations recently to remind me of the Power of Magick. Among other reminders (is there ever only one purpose to Spirit’s work? lol, not really, there’s always more). I was asking Spirit for clarity around why I’ve been placed in these dangerous situations, and then I had a dream where I beat up some people because they continually crossed my boundaries after I said ‘no.’ The only other dream I’ve had about violence like that was when I was in the middle of getting rid of a very dangerous practitioner who had been doing work over me years ago. In the dream, once I realized what she had been doing to me with her magick, I threw her up against the wall and let her know she probably shouldn’t mess with me anymore. Message received, and chapter done.

When I was going through that situation where another practitioner was doing work over me, on me, through me, without my permission- I hadn’t ever really had to curse someone, or protect myself, with magick before. The dream I had from Spirit, where I threw that practitioner up against a wall- Spirit let me know that I was meant to see how much my magick actually rattled her. How shaken up and hurt she was because of what I had been practicing to protect myself. It’s a great time to remember one’s power.

So, today I wanted to talk a little bit about curses. If Spirit is putting me back in potentially dangerous situations, and is having some of the Coven members moving into possibly harmful situations (also, look at the world)- it’s important to understand how to FIGHT with magick, because really- that’s what cursing is.

I talk a lot on this blog about War, and Battle, and Victory- and every once in a while, we also have got to talk about the fight. How to fight, when to fight, where to fight, who to fight, and why fighting is really even needed. I’ve seen curses I’ve cast come back to me and force me through the Curse, as well as the other person. I’ve seen other people walk against me, and because of the protective work I’ve done in my life, they’ve been sent into a spiral without me having to lift any further energy. That’s part of the reason that I focus on so much preparation work. The more preparation work has been done, the more instantaneously magick can start to work.

When do we even know that it’s okay to curse someone?

That’s a big old question. Listen to your gut, and your knowings. That is the basis of any and all discernment. If you’re not sure, talk to Spirit, the Highest Spirit, God, Source (literally however you pronounce your name for that being is awesome)- and talk to the spirits on your team. This is part of the reason why keeping your spiritual relationships up-to-date is so important. If the spirits on your team are well connected to you (you make offerings and talk to them often, it’s like keeping in touch with your friends and relatives, except it’s spiritual upkeep)- those connections in the spirit are going to probably warn you of situations and people, that way you wouldn’t even really need to go into a cursing sort of situation to begin with. Sometimes though, we are asked to walk through the darkness and learn to fight with our magick. Sometimes situations cannot be avoided.

One of the things to understand about curses is that they are always ancestral. I’ll always recommend that you keep a healthy up-keep of deconstruction work ancestrally in your practice. Deconstructing what they’ve been through, what’s been passed on to you, why it’s still in the lineage. For healthy fundamentals in ancestral work as a base foundation: Elevation, and Boundaries. Those are the two things I focus on the most. Sometimes the boundaries are needed because, for example, not everyone I come from actually wants to see me win and do my best. There are persecutors of witches in my lineage (for an example), among many other detailed and specific spaces that we won’t get into on here- however, the big note is that I’ve needed a lot of boundaries when working with, calling on, and offering to my ancestral lineage.

When working with boundaries, this is a tool of War and Battle. The shield is also a weapon, thank you the Valkyrie for teaching that to me. If you have boundaries that are already set up in your life- then you’ve created an Order for enemies to walk through to even make it to you in the first place. Boundaries, and the study of them, the practice of them, is the most important place to start. If you don’t have boundaries, then there’s a reason those enemies have been sent to you. Place yourself in the Process of Fortification (that very specific verbiage will help, if you were to Spell something or talk with Spirit- the Process of Fortification). Fortifying your practice, your mind, your heart, your lineage of Love. However that Fortification Process happens will build you up, and break down what’s around you that could cause you harm. We must sometimes separate from what is taking energy from us, place a boundary, and become impenetrable to that now opposing force. Fortification, the Process Order.

The other ancestral work is that of Elevation. This is what we also know as Curse Breaking, on an ancestral level. If you come from a lineage that has persecuted witches, for however long, and you now are a practicing witch- there’s still blood running through you that comes from a Persecutor! I shall not be persecuted by my own blood! No way, no way, no way. Look at the cycles you are in, have been in since birth, and talk to Spirit about Elevating yourself OUT of these cycles.

Breaking ancestral curses, Elevating yourself up and out of them, is different for everyone- and this is for good reason. The process of Elevating yourself out of that ancestral cycle and/or curse- that Process, the Order of Happenings, is going to be what others will be forced to walk through should they step against that Elevation you have now just created for yourself. This is sometimes enough. Sometimes the work can stop there, and the enemy can be broken down and taken out. Sometimes, the Elevation work is enough to harm another person. Elevating is hard, difficult, and requires a path crossed where things are lost. There is always a cost, and as an example- if you want to be Elevated in Joy, that’s going to cost you your Misery. Some people, ancestors, cling to the misery though, unwilling to let go- and draw power from that misery. So, sometimes that Elevation work is enough, as it strips the Power away from the opposing force, attacker, abuser, or ‘insert other horrible name here.’

If that Elevation and Healing work for your own ancestry is for some reason not enough to Force another person to the ground in the Magick work of things- here’s what to do, some protocol for you.

First, you’ve got to check AGAIN. Look again at your ancestry, is anything still cycling, is anything still stuck. Make your offerings to your ancestry if you need to, talk with them, walk with them, ask to hear their stories. If you’re SURE, well and sure, about the fact that you and your ancestors are OUT of the cycles that this other opposing Force/Person is trying to put you in (and sometimes I’ve broken curses just to be met by an opposing Force/Person to re-affirm my worth, boundaries, and magick)- then the work of cursing can begin. But, not before. It cannot happen before. If it happens before you are sure, you’re probably signing yourself up to also go through the Order of the Curse that you are looking to cast onto another.

Now, if you are sure- what are you asking for? Magick is about the will, it is about our decisions. If you so feel it is within your hands, rights, and placement to offer Justice to another (and, for reference, Spirit doesn’t ever have me walk against people unless they need me to take care of the opposing Force and create some form of Justice- and it’s probably relevant to other magick work I’m creating, or have created, even if I don’t know what/why exactly yet. For me I’m usually blinded in these sorts of positions, so discernment of why and how Spirit may have you walking through something like this)- if you feel it’s a go time, you need an art form, you need a plan, you need to know how to attack, and what that attack will be. If not, then are you really ready? Go back and look again if you’re not sure on a plan.

When I’m cursing, if I am, I’m usually speaking things over others. Forcing them through the Elevation I know they are not going to want to go through. That’s usually my plan. Usually, that’s the sort of enemy I come up against- others who do not wish to, and will not, Elevate. That is, without a Force coming against them to place them in a position where now the only answer IS Elevation. If people can be Elevated, through Love, that’s some of the hardest work I’ve done. To sit and look at my ancestors who I strongly disagree with and say “no more of this, we are elevating now and I Love you still”??? Yeah, you can call me crazy. It’s a hard thing to look a person who hates you in the face and say to them “I love you, and you are worth that elevation- so may you be elevated in Love out of this position that’s holding you down.” If you can do that, and not waver, not shake, not break- welcome to the club (insert ‘in the clerb, we’re all fam’ meme here).

For a long time in my practice, I stopped facing the ancestors I disagreed with. In fact, actually, when I started practicing I made sure there were clear boundaries that I didn’t even want to talk with them. However, this left open blindspots in my practice to who I was, and the people around me, and the practices I was keeping. Was I still actively doing healing and deconstruction work, even not talking to the ancestors I disagreed with? Oh, for sure. Except, with the path I chose to go down and walk, there came a point where I was forced to face the people in my lineage who really wanted me dead, for one reason or another. And I’ve looked them in the face, the heart, and told them that not only are they going to be forced to rest now, it is that Rest that shall Elevate them from the positions of hatred and persecution that they so inhabited when they were alive. It will make your blood feel different. Your world will shift. Your roots will change. And, you’ll feel it, sometimes instantaneously.

Now, imagine you’re doing that work ^ and someone walks against you- automatically they’re going to forced to do what you’ve just done. That’s the Power of Order. You cannot cast a curse and not have gone through it yourself- that’s where curses can backfire. However, if you’ve already done something (i.e. Elevated your hateful ancestors and placed Rest on them), then you can cast that onto another without having to think twice about it. You’ve already done the work, you’ve already created the Order, you’ve already become the weapon that would work against that other person. If you get deep enough into this work, you’ll not need anything except a thought to make sure others are moved how they need to be.

It will take years of practice if you are new. And, if you’re already in fundamentals, look at what you’re already doing that others would not want to do. Look at what you’re already doing that does not Elevate you, and go through and Elevate that too (this will strengthen your defenses and attacks, so should you need them). Look at possible opposing forces for the work you are creating currently. Those opposing forces are going to turn towards you to make sure your work is true. If you can cast yourself through Elevation, and then Curse someone to go through Elevation as well- the opposing forces of that Elevation is going to be what comes to test you. If you’ve already been tested by it though, the Order is firm, and you will not have to squirm.

You’re also going to need to understand that a curse, in it’s simplest form, is just another word for crossing. A crossing is forcing one to go through something. Forcing a cross. To cross a road. To cross a path. To cross a Fate. This can be good. It can be bad. It is up to you to decide, based on what you know of morals, values, and personal fundamentals in your World- what crossing are you going through because of another person, and what crossing would you like for them to go through based on how you’re walking through that situation. Again, we cannot force someone to cross a road that as an individual, or as a lineage of ancestors, we have not crossed before. If you’re going to force another to cross something, you better have a road you’ve already worked that allows you to Force that upon someone else.

Also, one of the biggest protectors you’ll ever have is the crossings you’ve already been through. I’ve given up two children to be in this work, specifically. My pregnancies, and abortions, were to correct my own ancestral lineage, call Death through Birth and Motherhood, so that I can cast that upon any lineage should they come to cross me in a way that I don’t agree with as Spirit has offered the authority of Priestesshood to me. Initiations in the Spirit often come with hardships for this exact reason. You must walk through the shadow and darkness, because the Order of Balance (a Law) must be kept. If Spirit can put you through something hard, and you come out the other side, you have now just earned the authority to correct another if needed.

Laws in the Spirit are also something you’re going to want to pay attention to when it comes to curses (and Order in general, as there are many ways that Order can be applied). Laws are the Orders that cannot be changed no matter how hard we might try. The Law of Gravity, for example. The Law of Reciprocity. There are different names, for different Laws, depending on the world of gods and spirits that your ancestry comes from these names and processions will look slightly different in variation. The Law itself though will be almost exactly the same, no matter where you are coming from ancestrally and god-based.

If you’re rooting in any form of initiation, or receiving authority in the Spirit (which, in my opinion, if you’re receiving authority in the Spirit, it is some form of Initiation you are in)- then learning the Laws in Spirit is something you’ll have to do at some point, may as well start now if you haven’t already. Learning about Spiritual Laws can help to Protect, Direct, and further inspect of you would so need it to be. Laws can be used to your advantage in any form of crossing work, because they will have to be followed, by both you and the other person. That is a great place to start Order, and to understand if the work that you and other practitioners are doing is Just. If another practitioner has crossed a Law, then if you have earned authority in the Spirit, it is probably now your responsibility to correct what you have seen that is Out of the Order of the Law. Practice Wisely, some things come disguisely.

There’s more information in the video about further fundamentals of cursing, and crossing- but as far as ancestral work, and practical applications of some of the things I can’t talk about on YouTube- this is a pretty great place to begin, think about some things, and then practice as needed. Everyone fights differently, and I’ll be fighting for Love and Elevation every single time.
