Power is Power- Scorpio, Pluto, and Understanding Power's Origin
In this Scorpio Season, we have a highlight on the Power we've received from the previous 16 years of work- so, let's look at what Power even really means, and how the application of Power can be.
Power for the sake of Power is a dangerous thing. It’s something I’ve been seeing in people’s eyes recently- and since it’s Scorpio Season, it is the Season of Power. I think it would probably do all of us some good to brush up on what Power actually really means, what is it, how we get it, and what we do with it once we have it.
There is the lesson of Power is Power. Sometimes we must relate Power to another, to help us understand: Power of Love, Power of Truth, Power of Evil, Power of Good, Power of Bad, Power of Benevolence… you get the picture. Power of *insert something here*. This “formula” of the Power of Something comes in handy for understanding where Power really comes from in the first place. Let’s for a moment focus on some Navigation Magick- if you’re looking at direction & navigation, what is ‘of’?
Let’s break down some directions for the purpose of navigation (and then apply it to Power later on). ‘To’ is going toward something, it is the process of becoming closer- with at least one moving force. ‘For’ is something that is grouped together and is about to go in a direction (but has yet to go in a direction)- it can also imply the act of becoming closer, but it is not always necessarily true (i.e. “I did this for them” you have done something that was toward the other person, but they have a choice in whether they receive it or not- or rather, a choice in how they receive it, if they receive it at all). ‘With’ is the consecration or finalization of a binding. ‘From’ is the leaving of another place/space. ‘In’ is to be a part of something, not external to it- can also create hidden or shadow spaces (and usually does).
So then what is it to be ‘of’ something? It means that you come from an origin, and may still be a part of that origin (depending upon how that specific context is laid out). The Origin would be the starting point. For example, to be ‘of Love’ could mean that you or someone else is coming from a place of Love. So when we look at the phrase ‘the Power of Love’ we see that in this instance the Power is from an origin of Love. But that leaves the question- what is that ‘Power of Love’? If it’s of Love, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is Love- they are different, even though they are together.
Power is really down to choice, will, decisions, creation (that may cause destruction, or vice versa). You get to decide what Power is, but if you do not decide- Power is still there, and you’ve decided (with your Power) to distance yourself from it. It’s quite a tricky thing, Power. This is partially why I say that the study of Scorpio (and the planetary rulers of Mars and Pluto, especially when/how they work together) is the study of the Will. So, let’s go back to the beginning- Power for Power’s sake is a dangerous thing. Why would that be?
Those who seek Power for the sake of Power are normally blinded to the responsibility of that Power. You want the Power to wield magick? What is that going to cost you, what will it afford you also? You want a new Job, or to move somewhere new, or really to create anything in this world? That’s a grab at Power itself, and if you’re not aware of the keen responsibilities of that Power, it can end up costing you more than you ever thought it would.
Understanding the Responsibility of the Power you’re asking for helps to lessen any blow back that could happen (thank you, Protection), and it also shows you the direction you may need to go in to obtain that Power. For example, you want to have the Power that a medical Doctor would have? That path is fairly laid out. There’s schooling, practices, licensing, etc. But when it comes to the more occult things, it can get a little shifty. What does it really cost to be a Priestess? What does it really cost to Practice Magick? And, what kind of Magick are you Practicing?
Power for Power’s sake also means that there are consequences that haven’t yet been examined. If you decide you are going to be the Origin of Power, that Power comes from you, that Power is of you- that also means that You are coming from Power. If you haven’t developed a relationship with Power (the Being, the Spirit) yet, then Power is going to wield you in reciprocation to how you have wielded Power (at least in my experience, that’s how relationships in the Spirit go- equal and opposite reactions are not just a Physical Law, it’s a Spiritual Law too. Shout out Newton). To develop a relationship with the Being, Power, you are also understanding more of your own Origin, more of your own self, and more of what it is you’re actually practicing in your life- whether that be from a spiritual perspective, or not.
Power for Power’s sake is what makes Magick so dangerous. And, also can be one of the most fulfilling forms of practice, if you’re willing to pay for it. I have seen in my years as a practitioner, being in many different kinds of spiritual spaces, most people are looking for their own power when they start practicing magick. Believing they can’t do something- practice magick. Wanting more beauty or to attract a Lover- practice Magick. Want a new job- practice Magick. Become more trusting in one’s self- practice Magick. There are many examples of this. When we practice magick, we are asserting our power and binding ourself to the path of receiving the Power that we have asked for, want, or need (and told ourselves we can have, aka- we’ve given ourself, and the Spirits/beings around us, permission to create that Power of Self in our individual Path).
This is also the reason that consent is so important within magickal spaces and practices. If you are using your Power over someone else (for example, say you did a Love Spell on someone else without their consent), you have officially just bound them to the origin of YOUR Power- whether they are aware of it or not. This is also applicable in baneful magick and protective works. Sometimes, in protection/rejection/redirection magick- the best work to do is internal, without touching anything in the physical. If you can change your origin (aka change yourself, subconscious, shadows, roots, and all the other stuff people can’t see directly about you), then anything that’s tethered to you, your Origin, your Power- it’s also going to have it’s relationship with you as the new and changed person, as you have changed your relationship with yourself (and equal and opposite reaction).
For example, say that you have a person who just keeps pestering you, and won’t leave you alone. If you go into your shadows and do the work (does it bother you? how do you feel? is there anything you feel like you need to do about it, and why? does it remind you of anything? are there other triggering events that have happened in your life that remind you of this person/situation?)- your relationship with that person changes, because the relationship with your Self has changed. This kind of work almost always makes us kinder, more gentle, more understanding. However, that does not mean it makes a pacifist out of you. Still do the work you need to do.
So, when is it acceptable to do work over people, without their consent (in protection, baneful work, love magick, root magick, battle magick, and so many other examples)? That’s up for you to decide. And, there it is, the responsibility of the Power you are (or, could be) asking for. What will really happen if you cast that spell? What will really happen if you put someone in the freezer? What will really happen if cast those roots? As the Spirits and Gods in my practice like to remind me- every decision is a big decision, no matter how minuscule it may seem at the time. There was root work I cast in 2018, and it bound me up in a pathway until this year, 2024. I didn’t realize it at the time, but it was a very big decision that seemed like not-at-all a big deal with where I was in 2018.
I’m going to place a video here for those of you who are interested in learning more about Magick Contracts, Binding Power, the Astrological Placements to study to be more aware of Power and Power exchanges- and, how you can interact with Power and be protected 🖤🕯 It’s been a question I’ve been receiving a lot recently, and I’m grateful I can spread the learnings I’ve had in my practice with you.
And, if your Power comes from your Origin- what even is your Origin? That will depend upon the Power you’re working in, or asking for. If you’re working in an ancestrally rooted work- there’s going to be Origins of ancestry. If you’re working in the god structure/houses- there’s going to be Origins of God Magick. If you’re working in the Primal, there’s going to be Origins of Primal, Animal, and Primordial. That is where understanding the essence of Power comes in handy, such as the ‘Power of Love’.
Having an essence, energy, or being that relates to the Power you’re working will help to tether that Power to you, the work you’re doing- and it also offers you a shield. If you are working in an undefined, shadowed Power- then you don’t know the origin of it, and it could be tethered to something that may actually be a bit dangerous. This is not always true- however, more often than not, if there’s going to be a way to get you unprotected, the shadows will show the enemy a way. If you can identify the Origin of the Power you’re rooted in, working with, standing in (and in battle forms of magick, or when identifying enemies, also looking at the Power Origins of the oppositions- that’s a super protective practice as well)- then you’re able to not only protect yourself, but enhance the work that you’re doing. If you can identify you’re standing in the Power of Love, then you can also (if you need to, because calling on the spirits is a very serious thing to do, so discern for you if this is True)- you can also call on the Spirit of Love, the Beings of Love who do support you in Love, True. Identifying the Origins of Power makes that Power stronger.
In cases of enemies, or battle magick, if you can identify the Origin of the magick, the Origin of the Power- you can squelch it, turn it off, and claim some sort of defeat. Enemies like to be hidden for a reason, and if you can bring them into the Light- usually, that ends the fight. If the enemy is in the Light, but the Origin of their Power (or the Power of their Tools) is not, spend some time thinking, journaling, meditating, and grounding that psychic understanding in the physical for yourself. Looking at people’s weapons in the physical world, and relating them to your spiritual wisdom, will arm you with more “wisdom-swords” than any other person could ever offer to you.
Power is Power, what can it do for you? Power is Power, what will it ask of you? Power is Power, what are you going to create and destroy? Power is Power, how will it ask you to transform? Power is Power, what are the costs due for the Power that is asking for you? Let the answers come through, if you need them too. Scorpio Season is the Season of Power (partially, Scorpio has many other themes attached to it, but this season specifically we have a big highlight on Power with Scorpio)- So, what Power has been afforded to you through hard work and consistency since 2008? Pluto is our planet of Power, and it finishes it’s transit in Capricorn this Scorpio Season, leaving us with the Power of some form of hierarchy- and leaving us with the Power that both Saturn and Capricorn allowed us to receive.
Before we leave Pluto in Capricorn, take time to grieve. It’s been a long, hard, arduous 16 years. It’s time we let go, and move into something different. Pluto in Capricorn has showed us not only what happens when Power is asked for simply for the sake of Power, but it’s also shown us what the world can become when we do the work to protect that Power for ourselves (and possibly for the other people in our life, depending upon where your personal Saturn and Pluto placements are in your chart).
Gratitude, Reverence, and Love to you. Keep doing what you need to do, and may the end of this transit (Pluto in Capricorn) allow you to see, understand, and claim the Power of the previous 16 years. That’s True. Grateful for your support, thank you for being here- and have an incredible Scorpio Season 💖🖤🌱🕯
