What I've Learned as a Witch in a War Craft- Fundamentals of a Valkyrie

Spirituality is not all "Love and Light," and sometimes the world is very dark- so in this blog, we break down some of the craft fundamentals I've found necessary as someone who offers to Gods of War.

What exactly is an act of War? If you look to the Oxford Dictionary, it would be defined as “an act by one nation, to another, to initiate or provoke a war.” What if we take out the ‘nation’ from this definition and make it a bit more personal? An act from one, to another, to initiate more than one fight. After all, that’s what War is- a string of fights, and/or battles. If you’re new to this blog- it is true, I do write on Astrology (and there will probably be some astrology that does come up in this blog), however- I also am a Norse Practitioner. The Gods of War (or, rather, some of the Gods of War- but definitely the Gods of War I offer to and have relationships with), those are the gods who have trained me up. People always ask me if I have good astrology book recommendations- but, in truth, most of what I’ve learned about the magick I teach on here has been learned through the initiations of both the Valkyrie and the Vörðr. Then, later, astrology became applicable as a tool- and here we are. While they may not always bring me lessons of War, or may not always be guiding me through a fight- it is that they are always Gods of War, which means they are also always in preparation for War (even if I’m personally not actively in a fight, it is always a great time to prepare). That being said, I want to bring some fundamentals of my War Craft to the light as I write, in hopes that you’ll be able to integrate them as necessary as our current world changes.

In War, there is profit. And, for profit, there must also be War. This is a fundamental I spent a long time fighting (ironically, for better or worse, I find I do fight the fundamentals of War until I’m able to integrate them). Money? Profit, which means War. Social Ladders? Profit, which (you guessed it) also means War. Love? There can be profit, which means there can also be War. Any sort of profit is linked to War, and to boundaries, to strength, endurance, length, exchange, and many other directional influences.

If ever you were to find yourself under attack, then someone is trying to profit from you. Collectively, individually, in your communities. Any space you could be under attack, and you find that it is under attack- what is it that the other person/organization is looking to profit? Protect that, redirect your enemy, and offer sacrifices (sometimes, as bait) where needed. This can sometimes be confusing to navigate if you are unfamiliar with it. Sometimes people want to profit Fear- literally, they could want to force you into a position to create Fear so that they can then feed on that very same Fear you just created. This is applicable to so many different emotions and spirits- I just often find that Fear is one of the main Beings that can be a War Profit (especially on an individual, one-on-one, perspective and experience). Then, you must also understand the other side of this fundamental- any time you are looking to profit, are you also taking that profit from someone else? You want that promotion at your job? There will be a competition for it, and only one person will win. You want to win, no matter the environment you’re in (or the environment that is applicable, situationally, to you), then there must be a battle. And, more than likely, there will be more than one, unless the enemy, or you, is completely obliterated in the first. Knockout punches in round one are not that common for a reason, and you’ll probably have to keep going even after a sting or two.

War is hard for a reason. I don’t just mean bullets, and guns, and knives, and swords- no. The weapons of War go beyond the battle field, and- they start before the battle field as well. For example, have you ever had to cut someone off? They crossed maybe one too many boundaries for your liking (as an example on a general level)- boundaries are one of the first tools of War. “I will tolerate this, and I will not tolerate this. I welcome this easily through my boundaries, but this other thing I will not so much as let ten feet near my borders.” Boundaries are bindings, and they can help you draw victories, or be torn into losses. What you’re bound up in (i.e. relationships, and their boundaries; thought patterns and belief systems; structures of hierarchy, such as your job or your government; your body, including how you treat it and any illness you may also have- those are some general examples)- what you’re bound up in can determine if you are already at a win or loss. This, in astrology, is the study of Saturn, Mars, Jupiter, and Pluto.

Saturn is the Order, the Structure, and also what Time allows us. Sometimes we do have Time to sit around, debate, and decide. Sometimes though, we do not have the Time, and decisions must be made without Time to debate. As I’ve come to know it, that is a dangerous Fate- one that is woven without Time to debate. Mars is the Boundaries- and how those boundaries work well, how do they not, who and what gets to come into those boundaries, why, and when? Jupiter is our aims through Time, and our ability to hit our targets. Pluto, these are the riches War presents to us. As it is, the Riches of War are always tied to the underworld.

To be able to profit in War, there must be Life taken- which also means that Death must be Willed. It may not be the Life of a human- but this is how Pluto obtains it’s riches: taking Life from another.

If two people are fighting on a battle field, then what weapon do they wield, if any? These weapons offer different tools of Willing Death, if not wielded with a tool then it is only willed by one’s own hands. Whether a tool is involved or not- Death, if it is willed, must be done by one’s own will. If it is not done by one’s own will, then it is done by commanding another- and this is a very dangerous sort of magick that I’ll leave to debrief another time.

We also sometimes find ourselves on battlefields that could not be avoided. Sort of like an “all routes lead to this point” sort of place. There are sometimes we can avoid battles. Get ahead of it, and miss the environment all together. Go around it, and not have to touch it. But what happens when the battle field is so far encompassing that it does not matter how much Time you have, and it does not matter what direction you go? These are called Fates.

I have spoken of Fates on this blog numerous Times, and for that reason, I won’t get into the extra specifics of Fates (it would take actual eons to do so, which we don’t have, but I will wrap up a summary for us). What we need to know about Fate for the purpose of this blog, is that Fate is a crossing. It is when two (or more) actions cross each other. Do you remember what the definition of War was from the beginning? "An act from one, to another, with the intent to provoke multiple battles.” When we are crossed with such an unavoidable Fate- what happens next? That is where the frenzy, the crazy, the war begins. One thing about War- you better know what you’re fighting for, otherwise you’re fighting for War.

If you were to be met by such unavoidable Fates as War, and not know what you were fighting for, searching for, looking for, creating, wanting, protecting, desiring- this is when you can get Lost to War, or Lost in War. Sometimes, it’s both.

Being Lost in War sucks. Just plain, flat out, it sucks. I’ve been in the middle of battles and had no idea where I am or who the enemy is. And, in retrospect, even though at the time it sucked- I learned a very valuable lesson that I must always know where I am, internally and externally. The distinction of internal and external is important. If you know who you are, but not where you are- you’re lost externally. If you know where you are, but not who you are- you’re lost internally. If you know neither- you’ll become a person you never thought you’d be (more than likely). If you know where you are and who you are- you’re Lucky. And, Luck- it’s neutral. I’ve been saying it for months now- and apparently I’ll keep chiming on about it. Luck is neutral, because Luck is how we’re already bound up in Fate.

When Fate comes to meet us, it’s in part due to the fact that we’ve been walking a specific way for a while now- and for whatever reason (probably larger than you or me will ever understand), it’s Time for something to cross us. If you’ve been walking a specific way up until that Fate crossing, that is your preparation for that Fate. That preparation becomes your Luck.

In War, you must know what is worth fighting for. I haven’t a clue how many times I’ve been in the middle of some sucky situation and had the absolute lights knocked out of me (metaphorically, or spiritually, I guess however you’d want to phrase that is appropriate)- but, because I knew what was worth fighting for, I could stand and have another hit land. I’m not one to say I’ve always known what was worth fighting for, sometimes it takes years of practice to figure that out. In all honesty, I feel like I’ve just finally gotten my feet with this one. And also, if you know what’s worth fighting for- you know what’s worth protecting, you know how to protect it, and you also know who the enemy is. That final one is imperative, it is War, there are enemies- and identifying them is not only a survival skill, it is a skill of the heart.

“All is fair in Love and War.” Love can be given to any person, at any time, and any place. But, is that person an enemy or not? Studying the Art of War (meaning literally the skills of battle and war craft, not necessarily the book- although it is a good read) is what has helped me to navigate spaces where people are involved- especially as a Lover girl. I have a big heart, but I don’t let people see it, receive it, listen to it, or experience it unless it’s been made clear to me that they pass all the levels of invisible boundaries I’ve put up to ensure that only people I’ve deemed “safe” can be around me. It takes time to learn these sorts of boundaries, and the fall out of a broken heart is sometimes so hard to heal.

The heart is smart, and I always recommend to lead with the heart. In my experience, the only time I’ve ever been hurt more than necessary is when I’ve lead with my head and not my heart. Even if at the time my head does not understand why I am doing something, my heart shows out- and in Time I see why the decision I made was the ‘right’ one (or, aka, the decision that protected me, or allowed me to navigate a situation as safely as I could).

The only victory is the victory of choice. You could be minutes away from Death, and decide that Death is your victory- just to be swooped up by a savior and rushed to medical care that saves your life (Death always has the last laugh? Sure, or something like that). You could choose to betray your ‘team,’ and have done it in the name of Victory. Victory, in most instances, is a singular act. Especially if you find yourself constantly under attack. A personal example I’ll give to you- living through abuse. That sort of War, you do have to take it day by day, and you must calculate one victory at a time. If you do so, then you can find your way out of the War- as long as those small victories lead you to the big one. You keep walking and fighting in one direction, even if there’s resistance, then there can be a big victory eventually (given that you don’t fall on the battlefield of life).

There is always resistance. Whether it meets you now, tomorrow, in the future somewhere, or has met you in the past. The stronger your boundaries, the stronger the resistance. This goes also for simply creating new circumstances for yourself. Any Order is going to have an opposite and equal reaction, it’s a law of physics (well, I reworded it a bit, lol, but- still applicable). If you are the castle that has the most impenetrable barriers- that’s essentially an invitation for the opposition to come knocking on your door with an army ready to barge the door down. Studying your defenses, and refining them, throughout Time, that is what holds this responsibility up- and allows us the Power to create change, and more often than not defeat the inevitable crossings of War when they do come. If you can remain the force behind those barriers that are impenetrable, the walls shall remain. If not, then there will be fighting- so remember what you’re taught (and, what you’re fighting for).

Change from the enemy is the precise opportunity to strike. One of the things that you may not know about me, but you get to find out here and now- I study Jiu Jitsu, and am soon taking on other forms of Martial Arts as a part of my trainings (for anyone concerned with physical safety in our current changes, and has the capability to do so, I highly recommend this sport/art form- it has taught me more than I thought it would, and I’m saying that as only a novice, having been in the gym for a total of about five months so far). In Jiu Jitsu, if you’re ever pinned, the one fundamental they always remind you of is ‘make space.’ If you have any sort of wiggle room, if the enemy doesn’t have themselves completely wrapped around you without a way out, like a boa constrictor and it’s prey- you have an opportunity to create a pathway to your victory. And, space is most often created when the enemy changes- only people who have been studying for years can make a change and not give you room/space. However, if there is room, or space- there is an opportunity for victory. Don’t give up your will to the bigger (and possibly more skilled) opponent that is on top of you, fists at your neck- take the opening that was given to you, and make it hard for them to regain control.

An indicator in War that either a battle, or stage of strategy, is about to be over- the enemy reveals themselves. This also means, stay hidden for as long as possible (unless a tactic or strategy you’re employing requires otherwise). Sometimes, things make no sense. Sometimes, things are happening and there is no explanation. If you are able to remain prepared, vigilant, and ready on ten toes- the response to an enemy revealing itself is what can win that stage, and allow you to move on to the next battle front, rest, recovery, aid, supply, or even complete victory. I am someone who reads the signs before an enemy revealing as well. The weather, the environment, the birds, my dreams- and I react accordingly. That is how, even when I know not the enemy or their strategy, I remain prepared. This requires that you’re tapped in to yourself, that you know your intuition, and that you’re able to discern. It takes many years (in my experience) to learn these skills and hone them, and you’re bound to make mistakes along the way (we’re human, of course we make mistakes- it’s just that with battle and War the mistakes can be a bit more costly, or more fear induced. walk accordingly, and love yourself all the way through- even when you may not want to. Don’t let the invisible enemies take away your love from you). If you can read the signs, and you can keep a firm lookout for the enemy revealing itself- learn to be proactive, and train in your preferred method of striking. Remember that Magick, and the practice of Life, is an art- and can be created however you deem it to be so.

Strategize. I don’t care if you have no experience, or a lifetime’s worth- you need strategy. It is a rare occurrence for an inexperienced, all-go-no-stop, tactic or thought process to win. Usually these people/orginizations are much stronger. But, like I said earlier, I train in BJJ- and I’ve seen people have my size take out guys that are bigger than me because they know the game and have a trained head. Strategy can make or break you. Study your personal Mars in your chart, and how Mars in our transits in the sky is going to be interacting with you and any other placements you may have. That’s where strategy originates from, and its going to be most useful to practice. Another place to look at in the chart would be your Sagittarius, Jupiter, and 9th House. When it comes to strategy, these are going to influence your aim, and therefor also your gains and losses. If you can have the aims you want, you gain. If you cannot have the aims you want, there could be losses. Strategy (and Training) determines your ability to have the lucky strike of Jupiter hitting the target, and if it’s even possible in the first place. Mars, Aries, Scorpio, the 1st, and the 8th House will need to be protected before you’re “prepared” (I say that loosely, because we can prepare our whole lives for nothing to happen- or prepare not very much for something that is inevitable)- and one thing about Mars in battle is that whether you’re prepared or not, sometimes it’s time to go. Preparation and retreat will take place in the house where Mars is in, and in the energy your Mars is ruled by (or the signs that the transit of Mars is ruled by in the sky, regardless of the personal birth chart).

I’ve been having flashes, psychically, for about two years now of an energy similar to 2020. The unrest, the friction, the battle energy and spirits raising up again. It’s part of why I started this blog, actually, to make sure that others had the tools to equip themselves, if necessary, on a spiritual level. I don’t like to toss around the term ‘spiritual warfare,’ because it’s become so click-baity and fear inducing in our modern world. But, I will say that if there’s any sort of War or battle on the ground- it’s also in the Spirit. I’ve been feeling it for a while now, and I got the call from the spirits earlier this week about the battles to come. I don’t know what will happen, or change- and quite frankly, I do not care. War is war, battle is battle. I’ll rise if it’s time to go, that’s how me and my spirit operate over here.

Now is a time to prepare. That preparation looks different depending upon who you are, where you’re coming from, who is going with you, what you want, and what you need. But, if the spirits of War are around- then we’re headed onto a mountain. Think of all the ways you’ve been trained. Think of all the ways you’ve already been prepared. Give gratitude to them, and to those who have come before you in that training.

Within the battle calls I got earlier this week, I went to work- and I’ve been resting, nesting, and recovering ever since. Some form of the Flu (probably) to help clear out my body from the gunk and junk of previous enemies and battles I’ve been through. Had to call Death on some things, and that also means I need to rest. I say that to say- thank you for your patience with me getting you more content. I don’t enjoy taking days off, and if I could (that is, if my body and being a human animal allowed for it)- if I could do this every day, I would. Since we’re human though, we need rest. And all I’ve done while sitting in bed is think. There’s been so many ideas I’ve wanted to share with you all, and just couldn’t because of how sick I’ve been. But I’ve thought of getting on here for days now- so, thank you again for being patient as my body, mind, and spirit recover from the Death work I’ve had to do.

With that Death work on topic, actually- one thing I will say that is not necessarily a fundamental of a War Craft (as above), but is applicable for our specific times we are in: Women, Mothers, Womb-Bodies, Females, Girls, The Feminine (however you, or your loved ones, may identify, apply as needed)- it’s time for us to bring the Order. Doesn’t matter who you are, the Feminine, the Mothers, have been shifting for some time. The trend I’m seeing is that Females, Women, and Mothers who are not in an Order of Protection (for themselves and kids involved) are in a mode of Correction. Let the masculine correct itself, it’s not our job (and if you’re masculine, Father, Man- may the work you’re doing greet you as it needs to 🙏🏼), it’s not our responsibility. Focus on the work you need to right now- it’s going to look different for every person, and there is surely work to be done.

Also, remember, regardless of who you are and the labels that you put on yourself- you were trained for this. Whatever that “this” may be in your personal life. Life trains us. Our individual spirits train us. I may not know the individual battles you may be walking through. I may not know exactly who you are, or what you believe, or what you’re going to do with the information that I bring. But, that said, I do know this: This information on War and battle saved me. Or rather, allowed me to save myself. As I have walked through today, I have finally started to realize why the past four years of my life have been Hel/Hell. We must walk through the Fire to be forged. Once we are forged, we must be sharpened. Once we are sharpened, we can be wielded. Take time now to sharpen up. Bind up if you need to. With Pluto about to move into Aquarius, we’re about to see a great big change on how we move through our social spaces and dynamics. This will be an era of “who do you trust, and why?” There’s more to it than that, but applicable to all the rest of the information in this blog? For sure, who do you trust, and why, and how, and when, and where. All of those are applicable too.

May the gods and spirits of war that you offer to be able to support you, in these times of provocation, how it is you need to be supported. If you fall, and you can get up- rise. Remember this also- you do not have to fight with dry eyes. Even the sky cries. I’m sending my love to you. In a day or two I’ll have more information for you. Right now, I need to rest up and recover from the spiritual battle work I’ve just been in. If ever you feel defeated, broken, bruised, bound up, confused, or like you’ve lost- if you lift your spirit, Victory can be. If you lift your spirit, so can We. If you lift your heart to the sky, the sky will bring offerings to you. How you do this is up to you- but remember that there is no such defeat, unless it is that there is Death. And even in Death, we can still be lifted. If you have Life left in you, there is something left to give. Rest as you need to. Fight when necessary. And, as I like to say- if you’re going to fight, win. Let the victory Season begin. And, may you always be able to find the “Win,” regardless of the state you’re in.
